Yvonne - Love Me True Series

Yvonne, what a pleasure it was to meet and photograph you! I admire the strength and authenticity you have and were willing to bring to the session. Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to show you who you are and to help you not be as critical on yourself.

Tell us your story! What made you want to take part in the Love Me True Campaign?
I was at a low point in my life, going through a separation from my 20yr marriage, fully doubting myself with getting older and not feeling like I had a direction in my life for me personally.

While scanning through Facebook the “Love Me True Campaign” popped up, I took this as a sign.  Everything happens for a reason, I was meant to meet Jessie.

After spilling my issues out in the message to Jessie, I started to feel like I was making a difference in my life, I had shared my pain.  I then absently forgot I had even sent the message off, until I received an email from Jessie to say she would love to meet and do the photo shoot.  I was nervously excited…….

What advice would you offer to other women who are considering taking part in the campaign?
Yes, this is a nervous experience, especially if you are feeling insecure about yourself, but Jessie and Jamie couldn’t be more calming and relaxing.  Go in with an open mind and attitude…. “Hey, I don’t know these people, who cares if I make a fool of myself!”  Go in and enjoy the experience.

If you have low self esteem, find what makes you feel a little more special.  For me, prior to the photo-shoot, I got a spray tan and my nails done.  Something so simple just made the whole experience a little easier.

What does it mean to love yourself?
We all have flaws that others do not see, and we are our harshest critics.  Go easy on yourself, we’ve been through life, we’re no longer 18, but we have the scars to show our life.  Those stretch marks we have are from the love and joy of having children, those wrinkles are from all the happy and sad experiences we’ve had in our lives, embrace them. That is your life story.

What is your favourite physical feature about yourself?
My eyes

What is your favourite NON physical feature about yourself? (After all, beauty is not only on the inside!)
My sincere care and love of others

Is there any advice you would like to share with others who struggle to see their own beauty?
Listen to strangers; they have no need to tell you anything but the truth.

How did you feel during the experience?
Extremely nervous to begin with, as I had no idea what to expect.  After sitting with Jamie and getting hair and makeup done, she relaxed me instantly.  Then the photo-shoot, “how am I going to look?  Do I look awkward?  Do I look stupid?  Do I look fat?  Do my arms look chubby?”  These were all the thoughts running through my head.  I enjoyed having the shoot, and Jessie made it fun and relaxed, but then I did wait with anticipation on how they would look.

They looked fantastic!  I was surprised that I actually looked great, even from my critical perspective.  All those negative thoughts and nervousness was completely unnecessary.

How did this experience impact you? Have you noticed any changes in yourself, be it your self-confidence or anything else since your session?
I have found since seeing my photos that I have a little light of happiness inside me, just something personally saying, “Don’t be so hard on yourself”, “you look great”.  I’m not one to take praise easily, so have only shown a couple of people my shots at this stage.  I am working on myself and how to deal with positive comments, that I now know I will receive once I decide to share these.  They have definitely made me feel more self-confident.

What was the best part of the experience?
The reveal of the photos.  As I was apprehensive on what they would look like, this was very fulfilling.

Is there anything else you would like to share?
I couldn’t recommend Jessie and Jamie more.  They make a fantastic team and work together amazingly well.  We were able to have fun and laugh through the process.

Last question, would you do it again?
Absolutely!
